Project Overview

Sealevel Construction completed the Placid and Bush Floodgate Improvements project in Chauvin, highlighting the company’s marine construction expertise and ability to self-perform critical scopes of work, which included:

Placid:

•  Demolition of the stairwell on the southeast side and the area designated for the future Water Control Flap Gates

•  Installation of five (5) Water Control Flap Gates frames and gates:

       - (2) gates on the northern wall

       - (3) gates on the southern wall

•  Installation of new winch frames above Water Control Flap Gates

•  Installation of walkways:

       - Extension from existing structure to swing gate

       - New walkway above Water Control Flap Gates on the northern wall

•  Installation of piles for the new boat landing on the northern wall

•  Installation of 2,000 tons of # 250 rip rap

Bush:

•  Demolition of certain portions on the southern side of the floodgate for future location of the Water Control Flap Gates and the sheet pile extension

•  Installation of ten (10) Water Control Flap Gates frames and gates

•  Installation of new winch frames above Water Control Flap Gates

•  Installation of walkways:

       - Extension from existing structure to swing gate

       - New walkway above Water Control Flap Gates on the southern wall

•  Installation of piles for the new boat landing on the southern wall

•  Installation of 3,500 tons of # 250 rip rap

In addition to the primary scope, our team replaced and performed maintenance on select dolphin clusters at the Placid and Bush sites, as well as at Humble Canal. We also placed approximately 1,300 tons of 250-pound rip rap at the Boudreaux Canal weir.
